After 12-Year-Old’s Passing, Family Shares Painful Final Message

The death of 12-year-old Lindsey Mae Swan has left her Alabama community heartbroken and her family determined to raise awareness. Lindsey, from Huntsville, passed away on February 17, 2026. Now, her loved ones are sharing her story in hopes it may help save another child. Known as “Sweet Pea” or “Stitch,” Lindsey was described as bright, kind, and courageous. She stood up for classmates who were afraid to speak for themselves and was deeply involved in school activities.

She was a choir member, part of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) team, and rehearsing for a role in a children’s theater production of The Lion King. She loved volleyball, gymnastics, dancing, hiking, and animals. Despite her vibrant personality, Lindsey carried hidden pain. Her father passed away four years earlier, a loss her mother says affected her deeply. She also faced bullying at school, including cruel comments about her father’s death.

In her final journal entry, Lindsey urged others to check in on people, even those who seem okay. Her family now shares that message, encouraging open conversations about mental health and the importance of speaking up when warning signs appear. Statistics show teen mental health remains a serious concern nationwide.

Experts emphasize that talking openly about suicide does not increase risk — it can help prevent it. Lindsey’s family hopes her story will inspire parents, schools, and communities to listen more closely and act sooner. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available 24/7 in the U.S. by calling or texting 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
