When most people imagine building a dream home, they picture cozy cottages or large modern houses. For designer Will Breaux, the vision was very different. Instead of traditional construction, he chose to build his Houston home entirely from repurposed shipping containers—turning industrial materials into a stylish and functional living space. Located on McGowen Street, the three-story residence was created using 11 shipping containers arranged to provide both structural stability and visual appeal.

The result is a 2,500-square-foot modern home featuring multiple living areas and a rooftop deck. Large windows fill the interior with natural light, while open-plan spaces make the home feel spacious despite its modular structure. Breaux had dreamed of designing his own home since the early 2000s, but struggled to find professionals willing to bring his unconventional idea to life. After unsuccessful collaborations, he decided to take full creative control.

Around 2011, he began designing the home himself, studying container construction, structural safety, and local building regulations to ensure the project was both durable and secure. Shipping containers offered several advantages—they are strong, weather-resistant, and built to handle heavy loads. Their uniform size also makes them ideal for modular design. Using detailed 3D plans, Breaux carefully developed the layout and transformed his concept into reality.

Today, the nearly completed home reflects his original vision: clean lines, industrial charm, and comfortable living spaces. The project demonstrates how creativity, persistence, and innovative thinking can turn unconventional materials into a unique and modern home.
