Viva Las Vegas: Hidden Bloopers You Probably Missed

Elvis Presley remains an unmatched American icon, especially in his 1964 film Viva Las Vegas, where his chemistry with Ann-Margret lit up the screen. Their duet, “The Lady Loves Me,” is memorable, but behind the scenes, some funny mistakes and bloopers went unnoticed—until now. Viva Las Vegas became Elvis’s highest-grossing film, despite mixed reviews. Elvis stars as Lucky Jackson, a race car driver seeking victory in Las Vegas, while Ann-Margret plays Rusty, a lively dancer who captures his heart.

The film also offers a glimpse of old Vegas landmarks, many now gone. The on-screen chemistry between Elvis and Ann-Margret was electric, and their off-screen connection was just as intense. Ann-Margret, then 22, was so popular that some theaters billed her above Elvis. Criticism arose about the film’s focus on her physical assets, but her star power remained undeniable.

Filming locations scattered across Vegas, predating Elvis’ marriage to Priscilla. Interestingly, Viva Las Vegas out-earned Blue Hawaii by $450, making it Elvis’s top-grossing film, and it’s also his shortest at 85 minutes. Ann-Margret shared that Elvis wanted to marry her, but he was in a relationship with Priscilla. Despite ending their romance, they remained friends until Elvis’s death, with Ann-Margret attending his funeral.
Some say Elvis was unhappy with director George Sidney’s camera angles favoring Ann-Margret. Still, Elvis dominated the musical scenes, especially during the iconic “Viva Las Vegas” dance sequence, where Ann-Margret’s energy shone brightly. Fun facts include a background dancer who later received Oscar nominations and a surprise appearance by Glen Campbell on the soundtrack.

Viva Las Vegas remains a classic, blending dazzling performances, old Vegas charm, and unforgettable moments.
