He Was Every Teen’s Crush — Now 79, and Still Making People Smile

Bobby Sherman was one of the biggest teen idols of the 1960s and 1970s, adored by millions for his music, acting, and boy-next-door charm. He released multiple hit albums, sold millions of records, and starred in popular television shows, performing for packed audiences at the height of his fame. Yet, in a surprising move, Sherman chose to walk away from entertainment while still on top.

Born on July 22, 1943, in Santa Monica, California, Sherman showed musical talent from a young age, eventually learning to play numerous instruments. He was discovered at a Hollywood party, where his performance caught the attention of industry insiders and quickly led to television roles, including Shindig! and later Here Come the Brides.

By the late 1960s, he was both a TV star and a chart-topping singer with hits like Little Woman and Julie, Do Ya Love Me.Despite massive success, the intense schedule left him exhausted and disconnected from home life.

Wanting a more meaningful and stable path—especially for his family—Sherman made a life-changing decision. He left fame behind to train as an emergency medical technician, later becoming a sworn LAPD officer and chief medical training officer. Over the years, he saved lives, delivered babies, and responded to emergencies, including the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Today, Bobby Sherman is remembered not only as a beloved teen heartthrob, but as a man who chose service over spotlight—proving that true impact isn’t measured by fame, but by lives touched.
