She apologized and explained that she’d seen the door wide open and panicked. Thinking something might be wrong, she stepped inside, called out, and when no one answered, she tried to make the apartment look “lived in” so no one passing by would think it was empty. She said it reminded her of her first apartment after a difficult time.I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Instead, I thanked her.
