The son of a pilot made fun of an airport cleaner without realizing that his father was watching.

Every day, thousands of people go through airports, but sometimes, the strangest things happen in the middle of all the chaos. A story that had been planned for years began when a rebellious teen made fun of a cleaner while his father was not looking… one that would make both of them different.

Life has a strange way of tying things together over time. These connections can happen in the strangest places, like Terminal 3 of Oak Brooke’s International Airport on a busy Friday morning, where Peter, a retired pilot, was sitting with his son Arnold.

As Peter sat down in one of the hard plastic chairs in the waiting room, he checked his watch. He hadn’t worn his pilot’s outfit in five years because he had given up the open skies for the steady work of business.

His business did better than he thought it would, and their simple life became what their friends sometimes enviously called “well-off.”
