Bruce Springsteen launched his Land of Hope and Dreams tour in Manchester on May 14, using the stage to denounce Donald Trump’s administration as “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous.” He urged fans to oppose authoritarianism and support democracy.
The comments sparked immediate backlash, with critics accusing him of being unpatriotic for criticizing the U.S. abroad. Supporters, however, praised his boldness. Springsteen, who supported Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 election, called Trump the “most dangerous candidate” he’s seen, citing a disregard for democracy and equality.
A day earlier, Robert De Niro delivered a similarly charged speech while accepting an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes.
