Air traffic control audio describes terrifying moments after Delta plane flipped upside-down in crash landing

A Delta Airlines Flight 4819 crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport on February 17 left the aircraft flipped upside down. The plane, which departed from Minneapolis, attempted to land around 3:30 PM ET amid strong winds. All 80 onboard—76 passengers and four crew members—were safely evacuated, though at least 18 people sustained injuries, with three critically hurt.

Air traffic control audio captured the moment of impact, with a controller reporting a crash on Runway 23 and confirming the plane was upside down and burning. The pilots had been warned of gusty winds before landing. Shortly after impact, a pilot urgently requested emergency services.

Passengers shared footage of the aftermath, while Delta confirmed there were no fatalities and prioritized assisting those affected. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating, with U.S. support from the NTSB per international aviation protocols. The Federal Aviation Administration stated that updates on the probe will be provided by Canadian authorities.
