Tyrus, the WWE wrestler known for his tough persona, has a surprising depth that goes beyond his imposing presence. Intelligent and articulate, he’s overcome personal struggles, including a painful childhood where he wished to change his skin color. Instead of letting that pain fuel hate, Tyrus used it to build strength.
Tyrus, 51, is not just a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion; he’s also a cable news personality on Fox News and co-hosts Gutfeld!. His journey to fame wasn’t easy. Born George Murdoch in 1973, he grew up in a turbulent household, facing abuse, rejection, and time in foster care. His challenging childhood led him to seek solace in football, which became his salvation. Football gave him role models, a sense of direction, and the opportunity to pursue higher education. Tyrus eventually earned a degree in physical education, although financial struggles persisted.
After dreams of an NFL career ended, Tyrus worked as a substitute teacher and nightclub bouncer. His big break into wrestling came when Tommy Dreamer spotted his natural charisma after a brawl at the nightclub. Tyrus debuted in 2006 under the name Brodus Clay and later became famous as The Funkasaurus in WWE. By 2014, he joined TNA, where he became known simply as Tyrus.
Tyrus’s larger-than-life personality eventually landed him on Gutfeld! after a playful back-and-forth with host Greg Gutfeld on social media. Since 2016, he has been a regular on Fox News, known for speaking his mind. He’s also ventured into acting, appearing in The Purge, MacGyver, and No One Lives. In 2022, he published a bestselling autobiography, Just Tyrus: A Memoir, followed by Nuff Said in 2023.
Tyrus married his longtime partner, Ingrid Rinck Herbert, on January 7, 2024. Ingrid, an entrepreneur and fitness trainer, has been a key part of Tyrus’s life for nearly a decade. She created The Rinck Routine, a fitness brand, and founded Sensible Meals, a meal preparation company. Together, they make a powerful team in both business and life.
