An Australian man, Rob Holt, is seeking an apology after being asked to leave The Wickham pub in Brisbane for wearing a “Trump 2024” hat. Holt was attending a Halloween event with his family when a staff member told him that his hat made some patrons feel unsafe. Holt, who had been at the pub for several hours without issue, was confused and embarrassed, especially in front of his young daughter.
While Holt acknowledged the hat might be controversial due to Trump’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues, he felt the action was unwarranted, noting his hat had no offensive imagery. He said he would have removed it if asked politely.
Holt is now requesting an apology from the pub, which has a reputation as an LGBTQ+ venue. This incident adds to ongoing discussions about free expression and inclusion in politically charged environments. Holt has previously faced controversy for wearing an “All Lives Matter” shirt.
