Céline Dion Postpones European Tour Due to Stiff-Person Syndrome Diagnosis

Renowned Canadian singer Céline Dion has made the difficult decision to postpone several European tour dates after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a neurological condition. Dion shared the news through videos posted on her social media accounts, expressing her inability to sing as she normally would due to the effects of the illness.

Stiff-person syndrome is characterized by muscle rigidity and spasms that can severely impact daily life. Dion revealed that these muscle spasms affect every aspect of her everyday living, making it difficult for her to walk and impeding her ability to use her voice as she is accustomed to.

Dion’s Tour Postponement

Expressing her disappointment, Dion announced that she had to postpone the European leg of her tour, originally scheduled for February. The affected performances have been rescheduled for the following year. Eight shows between May 31 and July 17, 2023, have been affected by the postponement.

Dion assured her fans that she, along with her family and doctors, is doing everything possible to improve her condition. Despite the challenges she faces, Dion expressed her desire to perform again, emphasizing that singing is her lifelong passion.

Premier of Québec, François Legault, extended his condolences and well wishes to Dion, hoping for her swift recovery during a press conference. In Toronto’s Queen’s Park, a children’s choir performed Dion’s hit song “My Heart Will Go On” as a tribute to the beloved singer.

She revealed that she frequently sees a sports medicine therapist to improve her performance and physical strength. Despite her longing to be back on stage, Dion apologized to her fans, expressing her current inability to give her all during performances due to her health condition.
