An award-winning British actress celebrated for her commanding stage presence and memorable television roles has died at the age of 81. Her passing on March 5, 2026, was confirmed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, which paid tribute to her as a “truly brilliant actress” whose work left a lasting impact on audiences and fellow performers. She earned widespread acclaim in classical theatre, particularly for portraying legendary singer Édith Piaf in the stage production Piaf.
