My 16-Year-Old Stepson Wants to Invite His Girlfriend on Our Spain Trip—My Husband’s Response

My 16-year-old stepson wanted to bring his new girlfriend on our family trip to Spain. My husband agreed—but said he could only afford four tickets, which meant my 18-year-old daughter had to stay home.I was furious. I accused him of choosing a stranger over his own stepdaughter, whom he’s helped raise since she was seven. His response left me stunned.

“That ‘stranger’ is my son’s guest,” he said. “And you keep forgetting that your daughter’s biological father never pays for her vacations. Maybe it’s time he stepped up.”I felt powerless. I knew my daughter’s dad couldn’t afford a trip to Europe, but despite my anger, we left for Spain without her.

When we returned, everything fell apart. My daughter had packed her belongings and moved in with her father. She said I had failed her—by not standing up for her when it mattered most.I was devastated. I never imagined my husband would be so cold, or that his decision would push my daughter away like this. Now she barely speaks to me, and the house feels painfully empty.

I’m heartbroken and overwhelmed, questioning my marriage and my role as a mother. I don’t know how to repair the damage or earn my daughter’s trust again.
What should I do now?
