“Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a familiar saying, yet many people still forget it. That lesson became very real for 51-year-old Richard Huff, a heavily tattooed father who is often judged harshly because of his appearance. Covered in more than 240 tattoos — including face tattoos — Richard has faced online criticism from strangers who assume he must be a bad parent. But his wife’s words tell a very different story. Richard, a self-described “ink addict,” says tattoos are his form of self-expression.
About 85% of his body is covered, including tattoos honoring his children, and he plans to be fully covered within a few years. Despite the judgment he faces, Richard says his family is no different from any other. His wife, Marita, frequently shares photos and videos of Richard with their children, which often attract negative comments.
