(2) Experts Expose the Dirty Truth Behind Underwear Habits

About 36% of Gen Z respondents said they wear the same underwear for over 24 hours, with another 14% doing so regularly. Nearly a quarter of millennials also admitted to rewearing underwear, while older adults reported significantly better habits. Doctors say prolonged wear allows moisture, bacteria, and yeast to build up, especially in tight-fitting clothing.

This can lead to skin irritation, rashes, and infections such as yeast overgrowth, bacterial vaginosis, or jock itch. Women may be more prone due to anatomy, but men face risks as well—even when wearing looser boxers. Experts emphasize that underwear should be changed at least once every 24 hours, and more often during exercise, hot weather, or heavy sweating. Ignoring early warning signs like itching, discomfort, or unusual discharge can worsen problems.

While wearing underwear for a second day might seem harmless, medical professionals agree: daily changes are one of the simplest ways to protect skin health and prevent infection. How often do you change your underwear? Share your thoughts—and pass this along to hear what others say.
