Think Twice About Beets If You’re in These 3 Groups

Beets are often praised as a superfood, loaded with antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and natural nitrates that support heart health, digestion, and circulation. But doctors warn that beets aren’t safe for everyone. For some people, they can trigger serious health issues rather than benefits.

1. People With Kidney Stones
Beets are high in oxalates, compounds that can bind with calcium and form kidney stones. Those with a history of calcium oxalate stones are especially at risk. Doctors recommend limiting or avoiding beets and drinking plenty of water to reduce stone formation.

2. People With Low Blood Pressure
The natural nitrates in beets relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure. While helpful for people with hypertension, this effect can be dangerous for those who already have low blood pressure, leading to dizziness, weakness, or fainting—especially when combined with BP medication.

3. People With Diabetes
Beets contain natural sugars and can raise blood glucose, particularly in juice form where the fiber is removed. Diabetics should stick to small portions, avoid beet juice, and pair beets with protein or healthy fats.

Final Thought:
Beets offer many benefits, but if you have kidney stones, low blood pressure, or diabetes, it’s best to use caution and consult your doctor before adding them to your routine.
