One Mom’s Story Is a Wake-Up Call for Every Family

What began as an ordinary evening turned into an unimaginable tragedy for a family in Dublin, Ireland. Ann-Marie O’Gorman, a devoted mother of three, was enjoying a quiet moment of relaxation when something went terribly wrong. Like many people, she took her phone with her to the bath — unaware that a small, everyday habit could lead to devastating consequences. Her story has since become a heartbreaking reminder of how easily modern conveniences can turn dangerous when mixed with water and electricity.

Ann-Marie, 46, was at home on October 30, 2024, when the accident occurred. Her husband, Joe O’Gorman, had spoken to her on the phone earlier that evening and believed she was already in the bath. When he returned home, he found his wife unresponsive and realized that her phone and charging cable were in the water. He immediately called for help and performed CPR while waiting for emergency services to arrive, but despite his efforts, Ann-Marie could not be saved. She was later pronounced deceased at Beaumont Hospital.

An inquest later confirmed that Ann-Marie’s death was the result of accidental electrocution caused by the phone being plugged in while near water. Medical experts noted that she had been in good health and that no preexisting conditions contributed to the tragedy. Her husband, still grieving, spoke publicly about the incident in hopes of raising awareness. He said that while phones are often advertised as water-resistant, many people don’t realize the danger of using charging devices near water.

In the wake of the tragedy, Joe has called for stronger safety warnings to prevent others from experiencing the same loss. “People should know this can happen,” he said, emphasizing that more education and awareness could save lives. Ann-Marie’s passing serves as a painful but important reminder to keep all electrical devices — even small ones — far from water. Her story now stands as a call for caution and care in a world where technology touches nearly every part of our daily lives.
