Why Diana spent her last Christmas alone with reheated meal

Princess Diana and Prince Charles were once seen as a fairytale couple, but their relationship was strained from the start. During their engagement, Charles’ infamous remark—“Whatever ‘in love’ means”—deeply hurt Diana. Though their 1981 wedding was called “the wedding of the century,” the marriage ended in divorce after Queen Elizabeth urged separation.

Diana remained devoted to her sons, William and Harry, breaking royal tradition to give them a more normal life. After the divorce, Diana feared losing custody, as royal law allowed the Queen control over the boys’ upbringing.

She spent holidays alone while her sons were with the royals at Sandringham, a place she found cold and isolating. Diana died in a 1997 car crash in Paris while fleeing paparazzi. Despite personal pain, she is remembered as a symbol of grace, compassion, and resilience.
