Father needed support during the wake and burial of his wife and children

A tragic car crash on the BR-060 between Sidrolândia and Campo Grande claimed the lives of Drielle Leite Lopes and her three children: Helena (10), João Lúcio (2), and baby José Augusto (3 months). The family had been returning from a visit to share news of buying their first home. The crash was caused by an intoxicated driver under the influence of cocaine. While trying to overtake a truck, he struck it, then collided head-on with the family’s car. His vehicle veered off the road and caught fire. He survived with multiple fractures and is now under police custody in the hospital.

The wake was marked by grief and outrage. Drielle’s husband survived with minor injuries, while their 12-year-old son remains hospitalized after five surgeries. The tragedy has reignited calls for harsher consequences for reckless, drug-impaired driving. The grieving family is seeking justice—not just for punishment, but to help prevent future tragedies.
