Texas State student puts his life on pause to adopt baby he found abandoned in trash pile

Texas Student Adopts Baby Found in Trash During Haiti Visit

Jimmy Amisial, a Texas State University student originally from Haiti, is being praised for adopting a baby he found abandoned in a trash pile during a 2017 visit home. The infant, just four months old and covered in fire ants, had been left crying while locals, fearing superstition, refused to help.

Despite being only 22 at the time, Jimmy took the child—named Emilio—home and later agreed to become his legal guardian. “I took a leap of faith,” he said, even though it meant financial struggles and pausing his college education.
