Musk calls for ‘wave of impeachments’ for federal judges

With Donald Trump securing the presidency for a second term, political tensions have escalated. In alignment with his “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) agenda, he has swiftly signed a series of executive orders—moves that have already sparked legal battles.

One of the most controversial orders came under scrutiny when a federal judge ruled against the Trump administration, directing it to reinstate health data that had been taken offline. This decision prompted a strong reaction from Elon Musk, the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), who is now pushing for a sweeping effort to impeach federal judges.

Musk, using his social media platform X, called for immediate action in response to U.S. District Judge John Bates’ ruling. The judge had issued a temporary order requiring government health agencies to restore online data that had been removed following an executive order from President Trump, which prohibited federal endorsement of “gender ideology.”

“There needs to be an immediate wave of judicial impeachments, not just one,” Musk posted, challenging what he viewed as judicial overreach.

The ruling favored Doctors for America (DFA), a group that argued the removal of the health data was unlawful. Trump and his allies, however, see it as yet another instance of the judiciary interfering with his policy agenda. According to a Reuters report, concerns are growing over whether Trump’s administration will comply with unfavorable court rulings.

Speaking to reporters, Trump assured that while he would abide by the law, he planned to appeal rulings that obstruct his policies—especially those tied to Musk’s initiatives aimed at cutting wasteful government spending.

“We want to weed out corruption,” Trump stated. “And it seems hard to believe that a judge could say we’re not allowed to do that. Maybe we need to take a closer look at these judges.”

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump echoed Musk’s frustration, accusing the courts of protecting government inefficiency.

“DOGE has uncovered massive amounts of FRAUD, WASTE, INCOMPETENCE, AND ABUSE. And yet, despite this, a highly political, activist judge wants us to make payments anyway. In other words, we’re expected to pay, even though the payment request was fraudulent. DOGE caught them—but the judge doesn’t care. It doesn’t make sense!!!”

At the core of the legal battle was the question of whether DOGE, under Musk’s leadership, had the authority to access sensitive information about millions of Americans. Judge Bates ruled that in order for DOGE to wield such power, it must be officially recognized as a federal agency.

In his final ruling, Bates determined that DOGE does, in fact, meet the criteria of a federal agency and will retain access to sensitive data from multiple departments, including the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Following the decision, Musk took to X to celebrate what he called a major “victory” for government efficiency.

With legal battles intensifying and Trump’s administration pushing back against judicial intervention, this ruling is unlikely to be the last showdown between the courts and the White House.
