Tragic Plane Crash Near D.C. Claims Lives of U.S. Figure Skating Community

A devastating plane crash near Washington, D.C., on January 29, 2025, has left the nation in shock. A midair collision between a commercial passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport sent both aircraft into the icy Potomac River. No survivors are expected, with 28 bodies recovered, including 27 from the plane and one from the helicopter.

Among the victims were members of the U.S. figure skating community, including young skaters Jinna Han and Spencer Lane, their parents, and renowned Russian coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov. The loss has sent shockwaves through the skating world, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from fans, fellow skaters, and coaches.

Shishkova and Naumov, former world champions and coaches at the Skating Club of Boston, had inspired generations of skaters. Tragically, their son, Maxim Naumov, a competitive skater, may have also been on board.

The skating community is left mourning a profound loss, with many sharing their grief online. As investigations continue, the memory of those lost will be cherished and honored forever.
