Dan Bongino Blasts Secret Service Over Security Failures
Testifying before Congress, former Secret Service agent and popular podcast host Dan Bongino criticized the agency for leadership failures and outdated technology. His testimony focused on the July 13th assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, where a 20-year-old gunman bypassed security and reached a rooftop near Trump’s location.
Bongino highlighted the agency’s reliance on outdated equipment, saying, “The joke in the Secret Service is they rely on yesterday’s technology tomorrow.” He condemned the “do more with less” mindset, arguing, “There isn’t more with less, there is less with less.” Despite a budget increase from $2.34 billion in 2014 to $3.62 billion in 2024, he asserted the agency has failed to improve.
He also criticized the Secret Service’s divided focus between protection and counterfeiting, stating, “Agents shouldn’t be chasing $20 counterfeit bills while the president is at risk.” Bongino urged Congress to prioritize better resources and leadership for the agency.
