Congressional Staffer Regina Santos-Aviles Passes Away at 35

The Uvalde community is mourning the loss of Regina Santos-Aviles, a 35-year-old congressional staffer for U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales. She was taken to a San Antonio hospital after being found seriously injured outside her home and later passed away. Authorities, including the Texas Rangers and Uvalde Police Department, have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Santos-Aviles served as regional district director for Rep. Gonzales’ office since November 2021, where she played a key role in helping local communities gain access to resources and development opportunities. In a statement, Rep. Gonzales expressed his grief, saying that she “devoted her profession toward making a difference” and would always be remembered for her passion for serving Uvalde and the surrounding region.

Police Chief Homer E. Delgado confirmed that, while there is no indication of foul play at this time, all unexplained deaths are routinely investigated. The Bexar County Medical Examiner is conducting a full review, and results are expected in the coming weeks. Family members are fully cooperating with authorities during this process.

Friends and colleagues remember Santos-Aviles as a loving mother and a dedicated public servant. Loved ones described her as someone who could “brighten any room” with her laughter and spirit. Though her passing has deeply affected those who knew her, her legacy of service and compassion continues to inspire her community.
