Donald Trump faces allegations of violating royal protocol with a ‘disgraceful’ gesture

Donald Trump stirred controversy within hours of his UK state visit after breaking a key royal protocol in Windsor. He and First Lady Melania were welcomed by the Prince and Princess of Wales before meeting King Charles. As William introduced his father, the King greeted Trump warmly. But during the guard of honor, the U.S. president caused a stir. Instead of walking behind the King as etiquette requires, he strode ahead, chatting casually with a guard. Tradition dictates that guests follow the monarch in strict order of rank.

The breach drew swift backlash online. Critics posted:
“Trump walking in front of the King. The man is a disgrace.”
“He’s a narcissist; he doesn’t think anyone outranks him.”
“Leading the British army and the King—unbelievable.”
Many compared it to Trump’s earlier protocol misstep with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Despite the uproar, Trump’s packed itinerary continues. He and Melania will remain in the UK until Thursday, with heightened security following two assassination attempts against the former president and the recent killing of ally Charlie Kirk. Planned events include a visit to Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb, lunch with the royal family, a Beating Retreat ceremony featuring fighter jets, and a lavish state banquet to close the day.
